Roaming charges to be scrapped with EU

Good news for those of you that use your phone a lot on holiday; MEPS have agreed that roaming charges, the extra costs of using your mobile phone abroad, will be banned in 2017.

This means, that from 15 June 2017 you will be charged the same cost as you would at home, for texting, making calls and downloading data anywhere within the EU.

June 2017 does sound a long way off, but don’t worry, there is an interim price cap for roaming charges which comes into force in April next year, which the European Commissioner says will make mobile costs abroad 75% cheaper than they are at the moment.

The ban and the cap are intended to prevent mobile phone users from getting hit with enormous, often unexpected, bills when they have been downloading data or making calls whilst on holiday.
