Where will your next Golf Break take you?

Added 27/04/2011

Planning a golfing break abroad? Well soon you’ll be able to add the Maldives to your list of golf course options.

The island nation has signed a deal with a building firm to investigate the possibility of developing the world’s first permanent floating golf course, which will also come with a convention centre and residential rooms.

If the golf course does go ahead, the Maldives government hope that it will attract more business and tourists to the island. The plan is for the golf course to be permanently anchored to the main island of Male and will be designed to have minimal environmental impact.

The new course will be located five miles from Male International Airport, and one of only a few courses that will be able to claim that it’s right next to both luxury hotels and a coral reef.

If you are planning to play golf whist abroad and are taking your own golf clubs with you make sure you extend your travel insurance policy to provide cover for golf equipment and non refundable green fees.
