Weekend reports have showed that there is strong support for the pilot walk-out which will affect Virgin Atlantic passengers. This will be the first walkout in the airlines history and it is thought that the strike action will take place at the end of June or beginning of July, actual dates have not yet been announced.

The strike is said to cause disruption to many of the airlines destinations around the world which includes the USA, Tokyo, and the Caribbean.

If your holiday is booked, and your travel insurance purchased before the strike dates or the intention to strike are announced you will be covered under the travel delay section of your policy.

If the 750 pilots who are in a row over pay cannot come to an agreement with management it is expected that many transatlantic routes will be affected during the strike. Reports have suggested that there is overwhelming support for the strike action and that any walk out by pilots can begin as soon as one weeks’ notice is given.

Jim McAuslan, general secretary of the BALPA has said that pilots had not had a pay increase since 2008 in the belief that they were helping out the airline during tough times and that they would be rewarded later-looks like this hasn’t been the case!
