Macmillan Cancer Support is hosting an organised event called the Alps Hiking Challenge, which will be taking place on 1-5 September 2010. Over three days, participants will get the chance to climb a beautiful area of the French Alps, from the Chamonix Valley to the Mont Blanc Massif.

The Alps Hiking Challenge will be physically demanding, but incredibly rewarding. On each day participants will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the French Alps, from snow capped peaks to lush green rolling hills. Participants will sleep in well maintained campsites in two-man tents.

After flying into Geneva, you will be transported to the campsite at Tré-le-Champ. Three days of hiking follow some of the best trails in the Alps, where you can catch glimpses of Mont Blanc, Lake Emosson and the beautiful Chamonix Valley.

A group of up to 60 people will be taking part in the challenge. Participants need only carry a day pack as all other luggage will be transported in support vehicles. The trip will be physically demanding so participants need to train and walk regularly leading up to the event. Only regular walkers should tackle the Alps Hiking Challenge.

Macmillan Cancer Support is holding regular hiking challenges abroad throughout the year, including trips to Kilimanjaro, Jordan, China and Peru. All hiking challenges are designed to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

If you decide to take part in a hiking adventure abroad, it’s important to buy comprehensive travel insurance in case you have an accident. When you buy your travel insurance, you may need to add extra cover to your policy for trekking at altitude.
