British cruise ships are continuing to encounter problems docking in Argentina as tensions over the Falkland Islands grows.Argentine activists have been harassing Cruise ship passengers, including many elderly British people, as they leave their luxury cruise ships in Buenos Aires.

National activists, who are protesting about what they see as illegal cruise ship visits to the Falklands, have subjected hundreds of passengers on the Star Princess and the Seabourn Sojourn to verbal abuse, preventing many from leaving their cruise ship. They have also burned Union Flags and held banners saying ‘pirate ships out’.

The protesters have accused the cruise ships of docking illegally by violating a provincial law which prohibits British ships involved in the exploitation of natural resources around the Falklands from docking in Argentina.

Activists insist this law should also apply to cruise ships.

An increase in these types of protests along with a number of cruise ships being refused entry to Argentinian ports have resulted in P&O Cruises being forced to change the itinerary for two of their cruise ships, Arcadia and Adnonia.

Both cruise ships will continue to visit the Falkland Islands but will turn around in Montevideo in Uruguay instead of Buenos Aires. The British government has condemned the actions of the protestors and called on them to allow British cruise ships to travel without threats or hindrance.
