Visiting Canada? New online authorisation required from March 2016

Added 19/11/2015

online travel authorisation required for visits to Canada

From March 15 2016, British Citizens travelling to Canada will need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA).

The new eTA is a requirement if you are visiting or transiting via Canada by air.  If you are entering Canada by land or sea you will not need an eTA.

If you have a trip to Canada planned, you can go online now and apply for the eTA from the official Canadian government website.

You will need to input your passport number and other personal information when you apply and in most cases permission should be granted within minutes. The cost will be $7 Canadian dollars (£3.40).

The authorization will be electronically linked to your passport and is valid for 5 years or until your passport expires.  You can enter Canada as many times as you like until the eTA expires.
