The European Trade Union Confederation have called a general strike to take place tomorrow (Wednesday 14th November) in protest against continued austerity measures.

The strikes and demonstrations are likely to impact different countries at different times with Spain beginning a 24 hour strike from midnight tonight and Greece to start strike action from 3pm tomorrow.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office are advising anyone travelling within Europe to check with their airline or tour operator for the latest information. They are expecting public transport in Spain and Spanish Airports to be significantly disrupted.

Travel Insurance for Strike Action

If your flight is delayed by strike action you may have cover on your travel insurance, however if your flight is cancelled completely, it is your airline who have a duty to offer you a full refund or an alternative flight.

Goodtogoinsurance.com customers who have booked their trip and bought a Gold or Platinum travel insurance policy before a strike is announced will have cover under the travel delay section of their travel insurance in the event that their flight is delayed by strike action.

The travel delay section of a travel insurance policy is designed to cover additional expenses, such as extra food and drink, whilst you are waiting at the airport for your flight to depart; it pays a fixed benefit for every 12 hours that you are delayed.

In addition to this, after a delay of 12 hours, you also have the option to abandon your holiday and make a claim for the cost, up to the limit stated in the terms and conditions.

To make a claim under the travel delay section of your travel insurance you must have checked in for your flight at the airport and obtain a letter from the airline or travel company confirming the length and reason for the delay.

Gold and Platinum travel insurance policies from Goodtogoinsurance.com include cover for travel delay.
