Don’t delay on passport applications

Added 09/04/2021

The Passport Office has urged would be holiday makers not to delay on applying for a British passport this year and to allow more time for it to be processed.

It is warning people to allow up to 10 weeks for new passport applications and renewals.

During the pandemic there has been a significant drop in the number of people applying for passports, as a result the Passport Office are expecting a surge in applications once restrictions are lifted.

If you do need a new passport and are intending to travel later this year when restrictions are lifted, you should apply now to ensure you get it in time.

To help avoid any last-minute panics, the Passport Office are sending text messages to those whose passports are about to expire to let them know they need to allow more time for their renewed passport to be processed.
