It's important to buy your travel insurance as soon as you have booked your holiday so that you are covered for cancellation if you are unable to travel. Cancellation costs can be claimed when specific circumstances, such as illness of you or a close relative, being called for Jury Service, or redundancy, mean you are unable to travel as planned. Another good reason to buy travel insurance as soon as possible after booking your holiday is to ensure that you have travel insurance cover in place if a strike is called, which could affect your trip.

To be covered under the Travel Delay and Abandonment section of your travel insurance, you must have booked your holiday and bought your insurance policy before a strike is announced. In the current climate, you never know when a strike will be called, so it pays to buy travel insurance over 65 cover immediately after you've booked your holiday.

Three types of travel insurance for over 65s

Single Trip

Our single trip travel insurance has no age limits, and is ideal for travellers with pre-existing medical conditions. It is designed to cover one holiday or trip, up to a maximum of 94 days in duration. In order to be valid your travel insurance must cover the whole of your trip, from when you depart the UK to when you land back in the UK.

Annual

Our annual travel insurance also has no age limits and can cover an unlimited number of holidays in one year; each trip can be up to a maximum of 31 days. Trips must start and end within the insured period to be covered. European and Worldwide annual travel insurance cover is available.

Cruise

Our cruise insurance policies provide the following benefits to travellers with medical conditions: Emergency medical expenses, including airlifting to hospital (if medically necessary). Flexible cancellation cover up to £10,000 per person and cover for cabin confinement, missed port departure, itinerary change, unused excursions and cruise interruption.

There is no upper age limit with Good To Go Insurance. We can often provide cover for travellers in their 70s, 80s, and even 90s, including cover for most pre-existing medical conditions.
If travelling to Europe, you should carry a GHIC card, which allows access to state-provided healthcare during temporary stays. The card is free via the NHS website.
While a GHIC may entitle you to healthcare at local rates, it does not cover everything. It won’t cover extended hospital stays, alternative travel arrangements, or transportation home if you are unable to return as planned. Travel insurance for individuals over 65 includes repatriation cover, which can be essential in certain situations.
Without insurance, you could face high costs or be required to stay abroad until you are fit to travel on a standard flight.
Repatriation support may include:

Yes. Good To Go Insurance can offer travel insurance for over 65s with a wide range of pre-existing medical conditions, including some more serious conditions, and there is no age limit. All medical conditions must be declared when you request a quote.
A condition is pre-existing if you or anyone travelling with you answers “yes” to any of the following:
- Prescribed medication, treatment, or doctor visits in the last 2 years
- Hospital or clinic attendance as an inpatient or outpatient in the last 2 years
- Currently awaiting medical tests, investigations, or treatment
- Diagnosed with a terminal illness
