Standard cover protects you for cancellation, medical expenses and baggage, but it does not include cruise-specific benefits such as missed ports, confinement to cabin or unused excursions.
A cruise policy or cruise extension adds cover for risks unique to cruises, such as missed port departure, cabin confinement due to illness, unused excursions and itinerary changes. Standard cover does not include these.
If you are travelling on a ferry, riverboat or yacht (not a cruise), you do not need cruise cover. Cruise cover is required only for ocean or river cruises sold as a cruise holiday.
You need cruise cover to be protected for events unique to cruises - for example, if illness confines you to your cabin, or if the ship misses a port of call. Without it, these risks are not covered.
You are only covered for cruises if you select the cruise cover option or buy a cruise policy. Standard policies without the cruise option do not cover cruise-specific risks such as missed port departure, cabin confinement due to illness, unused excursions and itinerary changes, but they will cover you for cancellation, medical expenses and baggage.
