If you are thinking of taking short break in Europe then a long weekend in Prague could be a great option. To avoid flying, you could take the train to Prague. There isn’t a direct train, but there are a few options to make your journey comfortable. And the scenery along the way is stunning.

Take the Eurostar from London to Brussels and then travel on the ICE high-speed train to Cologne. Both journeys take just a few hours each. You’ve then got time for a few hours break in Cologne before catching the City Night Line sleeper train. Departing at 22:28 at night, the train arrives at Hlavni station in Prague the following morning, which is just a short walk from the historic old town.

Another option is to take a sleeper train from Paris to Berlin, and it’s possible to travel to Prague in a day on daytime trains, but it may be a little more tiring.

Once you arrive, you can start to enjoy your long weekend in Prague. A visit to Prague Castle is a must, and St Vitus Cathedral is perhaps the most recognisable piece of architecture in the city. Take a walk across the Charles Bridge, which offers spectacular views across the city. Prague is a great sight-seeing city, and regular guided tours are run all year round. Taking a guided tour can be a great way to familiarise yourself with your surroundings.

Check out the Astronomical Clock, which draws spectators on the hour, every hour. Figures depicting Christ and the Twelve Apostles march out of the clock, while a skeleton representing death tolls the bell.

There are countless restaurants to choose from in Prague. The Czech’s are fond of meat — mainly pork, poultry and beef. But vegetarians will also find plenty of options at dinnertime. And Prague is renowned for serving up plenty of local Czech beer.

If you are just staying for a weekend in Prague, then you might be able to afford one of the many luxury hotels that are on offer. Otherwise there are plenty of smaller hotels available that are very reasonably priced.

Whatever you plan to do during your long weekend in Prague, you will certainly leave with a lasting impression of this fascinating city.
