BA has become the first European Airline to allow passengers to use hand held electronic devices such as tablets, smart phone and e-readers from gate to gate, including during takeoff and landing. The devices must be in flight safety mode.

Although several US airlines are already allowing the use of gadgets during takeoff and landing, BA is the first airline in Europe to do it.

The change has been authorised by the Civil Aviation Authority which regulates the use of electronic devices on aircraft flying into and out of the UK.

"The easing of restrictions will provide an average of 30 minutes’ additional personal screen time," said BA flight training manager Ian Pringle.

If you are taking gadgets on holiday make sure they are protected against the risk of loss, theft or damage. Add Gadget Cover to your travel insurance policy to protect your smart phone, tablet and laptop whilst you are away.
