FCO LOCATE Service - How to Register

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has launched a service called LOCATE and all British nationals can sign up to the life-long service for free. If you are planning a holiday abroad, or you are a British national living abroad, LOCATE ensures that you are provided with fast and efficient assistance when you need it most. For example if a tsunami or terrorist attack occurs, FCO LOCATE staff will do everything in their power to track you down.

While on holiday or travelling abroad, it can put your mind at ease to know that friends or relatives can contact you in case of emergencies. If a natural disaster or terrorist attack occurs while you are away, they might want to track you down to ensure that you are safe.

How can the FCO LOCATE service help you as a traveller?

• They can make contact with you in the event of a major disaster
• They can help friends and relatives at home contact you in case of emergencies
• The local British Embassy will be made aware of your arrival
• They will store your details online, so it's quick and easy to update them, even while you're abroad
• You can add new holiday details every time you travel

So how do you register?

• Sign up using FCO LOCATE's convenient online registration form or
• Download a registration form and send the completed form to the FCO home office
• Have your blood group, passport number, destination dates and personal details ready to complete the form
• Provide your travel insurance policy details if you have them
• Every time you travel, update your travel details online
• If you move house, update FCO LOCATE with your new address
• Remember, all personal information that you provide is protected by the Data Protection Act
