A diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis should not mean an end to holidays
30/04/2012

As 30 April to 6 May 2012 is MS Awareness Week we’re talking about travelling with Multiple Sclerosis and how to obtain travel insurance for MS.
According to the MS Society, approximately 100,000 people in the UK have MS and most are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40, an age when you want to be living life to the full.
Being diagnosed with MS does not have to stop you living a fun, fulfilling life, part of which might be travelling the world or simply enjoying a relaxing holiday in the sun.
These days most people see an annual holiday abroad as a necessity rather than a luxury and there’s no reason why those living with MS should be any different.
Here’s a story to inspire you; despite being diagnosed with MS at age 23, George Pepper, now aged 30 from Leeds has just completed a once in a lifetime 6-month round the world trip with his girlfriend.
George’s treatment for MS requires monthly intravenous infusions, and he was able to pre-arrange his treatments at hospitals along his route in Australia and Brazil. Continuing his regular treatment for MS, along with taking regular rest and drink stops meant that he remained healthy throughout the trip.
You may not want to be that adventurous, but George’s trip highlights what can be done with a bit of research and planning. If you do suffer from MS you should consult your doctor before planning a trip to help you decide what type of holiday will be most suitable.
Whatever type of holiday you decide to take, obtaining travel insurance cover for multiple sclerosis is vital. To ensure that your MS is covered by your travel insurance you must declare it when you buy your policy.
Goodtogoinsurance.com can provide MS travel insurance cover online or by phone, once you have told us about your MS we will ask you a short series of multiple choice questions to help us assess the severity of your MS – it’s very easy and you won’t need to provide a doctor’s certificate.
