Tourism Authority of Thailand criticises FCO Travel Advice
30/04/2010

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office has advised against all but essential travel to the whole of Thailand, which has been criticised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).
TAT has claimed that it's unnecessary to warn against travel throughout the whole of Thailand and they've asked for a meeting with the FCO to discuss the situation.
The FCO deemed it necessary to warn against travel throughout the whole of Thailand due to the recent political unrest in the country. Though riots have generally been localised to Bangkok, disruption has now been cropping up in other parts of the country.
A TAT spokeswoman said: "We accept the advice against travelling to Bangkok. Although the protests are not aimed at tourists, there is major disruption. But we do believe it is excessive to advise against travel to the rest of the country."
Many British travellers have heeded the FCO's warnings and have been forced to cancel their trips. But some independent travellers are still arriving in Thailand in spite of the FCO's advice.
Luxury holiday experts Kuoni and Thomas Cook are both allowing customers with Thailand package deals to cancel their holidays.
If you travel to Thailand against FCO advice, your travel insurance may become void. Check with your travel insurance provider before you decide to travel.
