Northern Lights at their peak between November and February

26/10/2010

The Northern Lights can be viewed in Sweden, Iceland, Finland and Norway, and in other destinations above the Arctic and sub-Arctic regions. The time when the Northern Lights are at their peak is drawing near. They are at their most vibrant during the darkest times of the year, between November and February.

There are many holiday options that give people the chance to view the Northern Lights at close range. Many offer accommodation that offer front row views of the Northern Lights in a winter wonderland setting.

One of the most impressive hotels in which to view the Northern Lights is at the Hotel Kakslauttanen & Igloo Village in Finland. There is log cabin accommodation, but stay in one of the glass igloos to view the Northern Lights from the comfort of your bed – the glass roof provides an uninterrupted view of the natural spectacle. In winter, Hotel Kakslauttanen offers husky, snowmobile and reindeer safaris. They also rebuild their onsite snow chapel and ice bar every year.

See the Northern Lights and stay at one of the most unusual and famous hotels in the world. Every winter, the ICEHOTEL in Sweden is rebuilt using ice and snow. It is the largest ice and snow hotel in the world. This year, the construction of the hotel will be completed on 30 December. Every night the ICEHOTEL will offer guided bus tours of the Northern Lights.

Sign up to a cruise in Norway to view the Northern Lights from a different perspective. Whilst on the move, people have a better chance of getting a great view of the Northern Lights and visiting other parts of Norway at the same time.

Iceland was brought into the limelight earlier in the year with the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull, but what has the country got to offer travellers in search of the Northern Lights? If you plan to stay in Reykjavik, there are many night time tours to choose from to view the Northern Lights.
